How does Liquid Armor work?

LIQUID-ARMOR, pure magic? Absolutely not!

To simplify things, LIQUID-ARMOR could be compared to highly refined varnish. This is where it gets its middle name nanotechnological from.

Nanotechnology?

Before becoming a fancy word used to increase sales, nanotechnology has been a very serious and scientifically backed up word. According to Wikipedia, nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Work with materials, devices and other structures with at least one dimension sized from 1 to 100 nanometer (nm).

One nanometer equals one billionth of a meter or one millionth of a millimeter. In other words: 1nm = 0.000001mm = 0.000000001m. You got it, with nanotechnology, we’re talking about really really small stuff.

What’s that to do with my screen?

Even though your screen might seem perfectly smooth, if you were to look closer you’d see it looks like sandpaper. Everything’s a matter of proportions: At equal scale, Mother Earth is smoother than a billiard ball.

Those irregularities are the weak point of our screens. Just like the ant who climbs on walls because she finds holds big enough to hold on to, dust and grease don’t slide over your screen but stay put and attract other particles to come and trash your screen.

Same goes for scratches. It’ll be easier for you to scratch a rough surface (a wall) then a smooth surface like glass. Well all these small particles that rub against your screen all day long damage it because they get stuck into the irregularities and can only break loose by scratching the edges.

You probably guessed it at this stage, the whole point is to smoothen your screen surface as much as possible. This way, even the smallest particles won’t be able to get a grip and they’ll just slide right over your screen. This phenomenon is also known as the “Lotus Effect”.

The Lotus Effect?

Lotus flowers have this particularity that water doesn’t stick to their leaves. Waterdrops simply roll without ever spreading. This is explained by the fact that these leaves have a nanometric roughness.

This effect is now achievable for glass screens as well. Thanks to its molecular structure and density, LIQUID-ARMOR is able to crawl into all the tiniest asperities of the glass surface to create a surface roughness smaller than 1nm. Reduced to that level, your screen doesn’t offer any holds for daily maltreatment an anymore.

So, my screen is now totally invincible?

Perfection doesn’t exist and the intentional use of sharp or abrasive objects will still damage it. This being said, in the event of normal use, LIQUID-ARMOR will offer your screen the best protection today’s technology has to offer.
