| Information: | 22.30 KONZERT Vladimirska - Polen (Retro-Circus-Folk) Vladimirska is a band based in Krakow, Poland. It began as the solo project of Canadian singer and accordionist Scotia Gilroy, but since 2010 it has grown into a 6-member band playing guitar, banjo, mandolin, trumpet, saxophone and drums. Focused around Scotia’s natural, unique singing style and a carnivalesque instrumental sound that has been referred to as “retro-circus-folk,” Vladimirska has developed into an unusual indie folk-pop project playing sweet, melodic, intelligent songs that are tinged with an exotic spirit reaching back to old-time European fanfares, carnivals and travelling circuses. In November 2011, Vladimirska was awarded the German Record Critics’ Award (“Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik”) in the category of “Folk & Folklore” for their debut album “Night Trains,” released in June 2011 by Gusstaff Records. In April 2012, they were awarded Third Prize in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) in Nashville, Tennessee (with a jury composed of Tom Waits, Jeff Beck, Tori Amos, Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Smith and other professionals) for their instrumental song “Muzyka do filmu.” Gewachsen auf den Straßen Krakaus, spielt dieses Quartett eine Mischung aus Folk, Pop, Zirkus und spaßigem Trad Jazz, irgendwo zwischen leicht melancholischer Filmmusik und gutgelaunter Polka. Transparenter Klang und schlichte Produktion der CD korrespondieren vortrefflich mit dem eigentümlichen, charakteristischen Sound dieser Band. Frisch, ungezwungen und wunderbar.
